Wolvercote Montessori Nursery is a warm, welcoming early years setting in North Oxford, offering a nurturing and engaging learning environment for children aged 2 to 5.
Established in 1993, we provide a calm, thoughtfully prepared environment where children learn through curiosity, independence and joyful discovery.
Our small size and long-standing staff team mean every child is seen, understood and supported as an individual. With rich, natural learning materials, beautiful outdoor spaces and a philosophy rooted in respect, we give children the foundations they need to grow in confidence and thrive.

Contact UsOur Approach
Children learn best when they are actively engaged and able to follow their interests. Our learning environments are designed to promote independence, concentration, and purposeful exploration. Children are encouraged to make choices, learn at their own pace, and develop a genuine love of learning that lasts.
A calm, nurturing environment
Every part of the nursery is designed with the child in mind – from thoughtfully organised resources to peaceful, inviting spaces that support focus, creativity, and confidence.
Learning through real experiences
We provide hands-on learning opportunities linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), supporting development across language and communication, early mathematics, creativity, physical development, and understanding the world.
What Makes Us Special
Wolvercote Montessori Nursery is a small, nurturing community registered for just 26 children, creating an intimate atmosphere where every child receives close attention and warm, consistent care.
Children enjoy rich indoor and outdoor learning environments, with thoughtfully prepared classrooms and beautiful natural spaces where they can garden, explore nature, climb, balance and play freely.
We place a strong emphasis on communication and early literacy, using stories, songs, conversation and structured phonics – including Read Write Inc and WellComm assessments – to give children a confident start.
As an inclusive, child-centred setting, we welcome children with a wide range of abilities and backgrounds, offering tailored support for SEND and children learning English as an additional language. Every child is encouraged to develop independence, resilience and self-belief.
Parents are central to our approach. We build strong, respectful relationships with families, share regular updates on children’s progress and work closely together to support each child’s development and wellbeing.
