Pupils Go the Extra Mile for Comic Relief

Pupils recently laced up their trainers and took on a special challenge to raise money for Comic Relief, and their efforts paid off with an impressive £250 raised for the charity.

Our Year 11 students organised a two-kilometre fun run around the perimeter of the school grounds in Elsfield, bringing together pupils, parents and staff for one of our biggest fun runs to date.

More than 100 participants took part, with children ranging from nursery age through to Year 11 joining the event alongside teachers and families. Runners followed a scenic route through neighbouring forest and farmland before returning to school for well-earned refreshments and celebrations.

The event was entirely organised by Year 11 pupils Isabel Till, Yousuf Mayet, Elijah Watermeyer, Annabel Newman, George McCullough and Nikolas von Billerbeck as part of their studies. Over several weeks, the group worked together to plan and coordinate every aspect of the run, ensuring the day ran smoothly for everyone involved.

Reflecting on the experience, Isabel Till said:

“It was rewarding seeing our hard work pay off on race day, and it has taught me how important communication, teamwork and technology is to be able to
arrange events.”

“I’m really pleased about the amount of money we have raised, and the part we have played in helping the country to raise as much money as possible.”

The fun run also highlighted the school’s strong commitment to outdoor learning. From Forest School sessions for younger pupils to the outdoor learning programme for students aged 11 to 14, the school regularly uses its unique rural surroundings to enrich pupils’ educational experiences.

Daniel Keen, Senior Teacher, praised the students for their efforts:

“It’s been a pleasure to see our pupils taking the initiative to not only organise an event, but to use it to give back to charity.”

“The fun run has been a well-rounded challenge for them, as it’s exercised both their minds in planning for the event, but also their bodies too in the form of participating themselves.”

“As a school we also have some unusual and breathtaking scenery with the forest and farmland on our doorstep, so it’s important that we use that to promote a balanced lifestyle between classroom and outdoor learning.”

“A big well done to the pupils for organising such a fantastic and well-attended event.”

We are incredibly proud of all the pupils involved for their hard work, teamwork and enthusiasm in making the event such a success, while also raising valuable funds for a fantastic cause.
