Celebrating Our New Chapter: Welcome to Oxford Millwood School

We are excited to announce a historic new chapter for our school as we officially become Oxford Millwood School.

After 25 years as Oxford Montessori School, our new name reflects both the heritage of our local area and the beautiful woodland environment that surrounds our school in Elsfield.

The name “Millwood” pays tribute to the mills historically linked to the area, while also recognising the unique natural setting that plays such an important role in everyday school life.

To celebrate this exciting milestone, we are inviting families and members of the local community to join us for a special rural-themed open day on 21st May from 10am to 2pm.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore our 10-acre woodland grounds, meet staff and pupils, and take part in activities that reflect life at the school. The day will include forestry activities, a maypole dancing performance and information about our involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh programme.

Families wishing to attend are asked to book ahead by emailing admin@oxfordmontessori.co.uk

Our school provides personalised education for pupils aged 4 to 16, with small class sizes, strong pastoral support and specialist SEND expertise helping every child to flourish as an individual. Outdoor learning also remains a key part of school life, from Forest School lessons for younger pupils to our outdoor learning programme for ages 11 to 14 and Duke of Edinburgh activities for older students.

Katie Townsend, Headteacher at Oxford Millwood School, said:

“This is a historic occasion for our school which has played an instrumental role in nurturing generations of children over the past three decades.”

“The name change not only better reflects the rural environment that our pupils learn in, but also our ambitious academic curriculum which they follow all the way up to GCSE.”

“Our unique woodland setting means that we are able to teach subjects in an engaging way by integrating nature and the outdoors into many different subjects, while enabling our pupils to flourish at their own pace.”

“The open day is a great opportunity for parents and children not only to take in our setting, but to also speak to teachers about the benefits of our small class sizes, individual learning pathways, and our approach to harnessing confidence and wellbeing.”

George, a Year 11 pupil, added:

“Before I came to this school I hardly ever spoke, but here I am made to feel like my teacher wants to get to know me and help me to learn. Also, because of the smaller groups my voice is heard in class where I can ask questions and share my ideas.”

“I really like the new name of the school, and I hope the open day helps other children to find out more about the great buildings and outdoor spaces that we have here.”

We look forward to welcoming families to our open day and celebrating this exciting new chapter together.
